Thankfully though, this blog has kept me from having to write out my mother-in-law's chicken soup recipe a million times. Instead I can just link to it & that has been really handy!Juliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00833830399005022149noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5773408308135391366.post-87530660315582584942012-09-20T08:14:00.001-07:002012-09-20T08:14:01.138-07:00--\\_[[Juliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00833830399005022149noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5773408308135391366.post-13673317305245774652009-02-20T12:40:00.000-08:002009-02-20T12:41:11.608-08:00Rusted Sun: baby foodA friend of mine from college, Alisa, has the sweetest little twins & she recently posted some of the stuff they've been eating, well, lots of the stuff they've been eating! I love her list of things I never would have thought to feed Addi so here is a link to it if you are interested. There are some really good ideas here including seaweed. FYI, Addi also really & surprisingly likes Baby MumMums(they look like styrofoam). I found them at Walmart so I don't think they are too difficult to find elsewhere.
Rusted Sun: baby foodJuliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00833830399005022149noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5773408308135391366.post-39965540206657252302009-02-20T11:36:00.000-08:002009-02-20T12:10:36.991-08:00The BEST EVER Chicken SoupThis recipe is from my mother in law. When I asked her for the recipe she said a little of this and some of that... arg, that wasn't what I wanted to hear! I didn't know how to cook so I needed measurements, exact instructions, but that wasn't to be so now I make it with a little of this and some of that too! So, I'll just tell you what I do & you can try it out for yourself.

1. First I grab 2 frozen boneless, skinless chicken breasts & toss them in a large pot of lightly salted water to boil.
2. While the chicken is boiling I dice up potatoes (about 4 med. size), 1/2 a white onion, and a bunch of baby carrots (the regular big carrots make it taste funny in my opinion).
3. Next I check to see if the chicken is done. If it is I pull it out of the water & toss the veggies in. If it's not I just let it boil longer until it is & mix up the stuff in #6 while I wait.
4. While the chicken is cooling a little I add the spices: thyme, parsley, bay leaf, rosemary(chopped up b/c Derek doesn't like the stick-ness of rosemary), some garlic salt, sage, and chicken bouillon cubes (5 or 6). I measure the amount of bouillon cubes just based on taste so I crush them up & sprinkle them in so the dissolve really fast. By the way, I use all dried spices, they work just fine.
5. Then I cut up the chicken & return it to the soup. My mother in law tears it up but I like them cubed for some reason (maybe it's more consistent & I seem to like that).
6. After the chicken goes back in I whisk together a can of evaporated milk and a can of cream of chicken soup (not reduced fat, cuz that's yucky) & pour it into the pot.
7. Finally I add about a cup of rice (minute rice works nicely) & let it simmer until everybody's ready to eat.

The recipe sounds involved but it's really pretty simple once you get it down & figure out the spice amounts that you like. I really just dump some in so I don't know how much exactly to tell you. Maybe one of these days I'll measure them out but for now this is it.

This really is the BEST chicken soup I've ever tasted. It is especially nice on a cold day and the next day, and the next day, and the next..... Enjoy!Juliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00833830399005022149noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5773408308135391366.post-14377374075249286482009-01-22T12:40:00.000-08:002009-01-22T12:49:30.609-08:00Check out my new Highchair!
Addi always seems to be under my feet in the kitchen which can be a bit of a dangerous problem so we finally went out and bought her a groovy new, green Chicco highchair so I can strap her in and she'll still feel "in" on whatever I'm doing since she's up high enough to see the counter tops and stove. Inadvertently, it is also nice to have to feed her in although she does really well sitting on your lap while having food shoveled in! It is pretty sweet and she loves it most of the time. Here are a few pics of her in her new digs. It is so so so good and Addison loves the brothy part but I wanted her to get some of the actual chicken and veggies so I just scooped a bunch into the magic bullet and gave it a whirl. In seconds Addi was enjoying the same scrumptious meal we were having, again - very little extra work for me, YIPPEE! and I didn't have to worry about potato, chicken or carrot chunks that might choke my 2 1/2 tooth baby. LOVE IT!Juliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00833830399005022149noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5773408308135391366.post-83760279158620376772009-01-21T17:05:00.001-08:002009-01-22T12:32:00.248-08:00So Far...Some of the yummy yumms my little tyke has enjoyed so far are...

bananas + oatmeal
bananas + oatmeal + strawberries
oatmeal + strawberries
oatmeal + strawberries + blueberries
**I just cooked some regular rolled oats with a bit of water in the microwave and then added frozen berries to cool it off in the blender. One nice thing about the Magic Bullet is that you can cook, blend, & store the food all in one container! Fabulous!!! Less mess.

carrots
carrots + broccoli
carrots + broccoli + pork roast
**I steamed the carrots & broccoli first in the microwave for a couple of minutes before tossing them into the blender.

apples
apples + strawberries

**One thing I do also, to make sure Adds gets the proper nutrition her little body needs, is to toss in a scoop of Enfamil formula or some whole grain baby oatmeal cereal.

Oh yeah, can't forget the SWEET POTATOES simply steamed in the microwave and then blended to a slightly chunky mush. These seem to be one of Addi's favorite treats.

I have to add a note here, I have tasted every one of these homemade baby foods and so far there are none that I wouldn't actually eat myself. That says a lot in my book!Juliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00833830399005022149noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5773408308135391366.post-11486640380281516922009-01-21T16:30:00.000-08:002009-01-21T16:49:25.868-08:00Baby food for my BabyI've been toying with the idea of making my own BABY FOOD for my sweet little babe, now that she's started solids and only has a nip of mother's milk throughout the day.

I bought a Magic Bullet to help me puree at the speed of light and it has worked wonders so far. I recommend it as it is so convenient to use and doesn't take much as far as clean up, which I really like!
So my plan is to use this blog to keep track of the yummy concoctions I come up with for my sweet little Adds. If you stumble upon this blog and have some great ideas of your own I'd love to hear about them.

Bon Appetit!Juliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00833830399005022149noreply@blogger.com0
